The "Outer banks" is a string of islands separating the Atlantic Ocean from the North Carolina mainland. These barrier islands include (from North to South) Bodie, Hatteras, Ocracoke to Cape Lookout in Carteret County. Areas south of Cape Lookout are considered the "Southern Outer Banks" or "Crystal Coast". The island of Bogue Banks is here and includes the pristine beaches of Emerald Isle, Salter Path, Pine Knoll Shores, Indian Beach and Atlantic Beach.
Because of Emerald Isle's close proximity to the Atlantic Ocean Gulf Stream our ocean waters are warmer than more nothern beaches, The Gulf stream is an intense, warm ocean current running off the coast of Florida to North Carolina. It is on 40-50 miles of the Emerald Isle shore and can be reached by charter fishing boat in 1-2 hours. This makes for exceptionall warm ocean waters and exceptionally good salt water fishing!
Emerald Isle NC is known for its Pier and Surf fishing! Bogue Inlet Pier in Emerald Isle is one of the few public fishing piers left in the area. Day passes can be bought for as little as $10 for bottom fishing or $20 for King Fishing. Surf fishing at Emerald Isle can be done at any strech of the beach, but experienced surf fishers say if you fish around jetties, points, bars, sloughs or cuts you will get more activity. Salt water fish caught while at Emerald Isle might include, pan-fish, flounder, speckled trout, snook, bluefish, smaller red fish, striped bass nd red drum to mention a few. If you do not catch anything, you can always go to the local fresh Emerald isle seafood markets where daily fresh catch is available at local prices.
In addition to fishing, Emerald Isle has many things for the erntire family to do including bike trails, golfing, tennis, swimming, surfing, boating, water sports, shelling or just relaxing on the Crystal Coast beaches.
